This position is responsible for attaining and maintaining certification of the laboratory by the various regulatory bodies. Manages testing in all areas of the laboratory and technical personnel. The individual who is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory including provision of timely, reliable and clinically relevant test results and compliance with applicable regulations and accreditation requirements. This individual is listed on the laboratory’s CAP and CLIA certificate. Oversees the quality control program and proficiency testing for all areas of the laboratory. Engages in technical discussions with clients to address questions concerning the interpretation of analysis results. Consult with sales force to determine what analytes to add to the testing menu, and guide the validation process. Oversee the continuing education for the technical staff.

HOURS: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain laboratory status in good standing with regulatory agencies
Attend national meetings to obtain sufficient continuing education credit to maintain board certification status.
Assign special projects to support staff as required.
Ensure lab preparedness for inspection.
Review validation data to support new matrices.
Attain/maintain state licensure for applicable states.
Oversee proficiency testing and remedial action
Oversee Quality Management program
Plan and direct production, research and development and validation
Ensures a safe working environment for all employees
Ensures there are sufficient personnel with adequate documented training and experience to meet the needs of the laboratory.
Provides consultation regarding significance of test results and ordering of appropriate tests
Directly involved in the selection of all lab equipment and supplies in regard to quality
Functions as the Laboratory Clinical Consultant
CORE COMPETENCIES AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
An advanced understanding of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.
Ability to coordinate laboratory functions and represent the clinical laboratory professionally.
Set protocols employing acceptable forensic standards of analysis and requires the use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications.
Proficient in operating complex laboratory instrumentation and computers with scientific software applications.
Must be an MD, DO, or Ph.D. in a chemical physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and be certified, and continue to be certified by a board approved by HHS.
A minimum of 3 years experience in lab management, and/or supervising direct reports.
