A Medical Technologist Performs all tests which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, with minimal supervision by the director or supervisor, in the areas of Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Banking, Serology or Bacteriology. Properly collects, prepares and packages specimens for reference lab. Keeps accurate records of tests according to departmental procedures and time frames. Maintains all instruments, equipment and work areas in the department. Properly dates and initials all reagents put into use 100% of the time. Assists Section Head in maintaining all necessary statistical, quality control and instrument preventive maintenance records. Is dependable in regards to attendance and punctuality. Employee possesses the ability to understand and react effectively to the needs of the patients while carrying out the duties of his/her job.
A Medical Technologist must be licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the NYS Department of Education.
