The Scientific Director is responsible for the development of new assays, tests and kits. Works closely with laboratory leaders and consults with clinical and technical experts to identify unmet needs for new tests and improved methodology.
• Organizes and coordinates all activities for new assay development. • Continually assesses the market need for testing. • Reviews and interprets the laboratory test reports. • Develops and maintains strong long-term relationships with the current clients at the senior level in the existing market and maintains ongoing analysis and review of client’s needs. • Evaluates regional business conditions and keeps current on trends in reference lab testing. • Identifies and establishes the collaborations with potential partners to enhance the non-patient revenue. • Identifies and negotiates potential clinical research protocols and potential industry sponsored clinical studies. • Partners with operational counterpart to establish a culture of openness, continuous quality improvement and staff engagement. • Presents scientific and educational seminars to help clients with their patient management needs. • Develops strategic plan, annual goals, and performance metrics for function(s); develops and implements plans for aligning function(s) to operational vision and strategy based on knowledge of local and regional market condition, market competition, pricing and technical capability. • Participates in leadership activities for the operation, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives; evaluates functional performance. Reviews and approves changes to internal processes; identifies and implements process improvements. Reviews and approves customer service standards established by leaders; handles operational and customer service escalations for function(s). Serves as a champion of enterprise-wide culture, influencing culture change to support operational objectives. • Carries financial management responsibility for function(s), developing budget recommendations and monitoring budget. • Works on highly complex or controversial projects; performs project management activities. Provides technical expertise on programs, processes, and best practices. • Ensures compliance against federal, state, and local regulations for functional area(s).
EDUCATION – PHD
EXPERIENCE – Minimum of 5 years supervisor/managerial and technical work experience is a full-service hospital laboratory, commercial IVD or reference laboratory. • Experience and in-depth knowledge of molecular diagnostic testing and personalized medicine • Clinical laboratory experience in whole exome/whole genome sequencing is essential • Experience in Oncology /Neurology is preferred
