This position assumes 24 hour accountability and responsibility for the operation of the assigned unit or function. Develops and recommends policies and procedures necessary to meet the goals of the Lab unit or function in quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness. The Laboratory Manager develops the appropriate employee ratios to assure a highly reliable laboratory. Selects, supervises, trains, evaluates and is otherwise responsible for the human resources necessary to achieve the goals of the unit. Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity laboratory testing and maintains technical competencies and knowledge of testing procedures and technology. Assures high quality and safety for all patients and staff and is responsible for the accreditation process. The Laboratory Manager works closely with the Laboratory Medical Director to assure department compliance with established standards of performance. Provides input to capital and operational budget.
Education Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or other related Science
Related Years of Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years of clinical laboratory experience, with emphasis in Chemistry and Hematology. Past experience in regulatory affairs required, to include CLIA and CAP licensing/accreditation processes. Past supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
Credential/Licensure Required: Must be ASCP registered or its equivalence in Medical Technology.
