The Fayetteville NC VAMCseeks a Board Certified/ Board Eligible pathologist in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty certification in Surgical Pathology and/or Cytopathology to support the strategic expansion of FVAMC. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Pathologyand will share clinical and administrative responsibilities in the FVAMC, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.
Applicants must have strong academic credentials with a track record of translational or clinical research, and are expected to actively contribute to departmental educational programs including training of residents, fellows, and medical students. The candidate must possess M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees and be board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. The candidate also must have demonstrated clinical expertise and publication record in Surgical Pathology and Cytology. He/she will maintain licensure and credentials sufficient to extend to the incumbent the authority to practice pathology within the following scope of practice: Full range of Chemistry, Hematology,Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Immunology, Serology, Microbiology testing, Phlebotomy, Anatomic Pathology which includes Surgical Pathology,and Cytology Services.
The combined anatomic and clinical pathologist can perform the following services required in the practice of Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology and Clinicalpathology.
-Application of accepted criteria in formulating and reporting diagnostic information on various anatomic pathology specimens to include Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, and autopsy pathology.
-Provide clinical laboratory consultation for all clinical laboratory services to technicalpersonneland healthcare providers.
-Participation in Quality Assurance measures for laboratory sections as required by accreditation standards.
-The AP/CP pathologist is ultimately responsible for diagnostic interpretation of specimens processed within the laboratory.
-Review of gross specimens
-Processing and interpretation of intraoperative frozen sections.
-Provide intraoperative and intraprocedural consultation as requested. Clinical Pathology: Supervision and interpretation related to: Blood Bank, Clinical Chemistry, Special Chemistry & Toxicology, Microbiology, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation,and Serology.
-Presentations at medical conferences: Surgical O&O, Medical Staff, Tumor Board and others as requested.
Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm rotating weekends and holidays and on-call may be required

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
