Bassett Medical Center is seeking a Technical Specialist to join their Clinical Laboratory team and practice in the area of Clinical Chemistry. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with effective oral and written communication skills, have the ability to organize and prioritize workload and direct other laboratory professionals with minimum supervision along with effectively training students and new employees. Other responsibilities include coordinating functions and activities, reporting results, developing and monitoring quality control and test procedures, overseeing proficiency testing, overseeing quality improvement and equipment, meeting regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, TJC) for the Chemistry section, performing tests requiring special scientific skill, correlating knowledge and understanding of theory and technical elements of testing to solve problems and answer questions and partner with other laboratory staff to provide a smooth operating and efficient Clinical Laboratory Department. In addition, the Technical Specialist also maintains competence and periodically performs the bench duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the Chemistry section.

About Bassett’s Clinical Laboratory:
The Clinical Laboratory operates as a full service department, accredited by the NYS Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Unit and the Joint Commission. Current departments include chemistry, urinalysis, coagulations, hematology, blood transfusion, microbiology, histology, pathology, and cytology and laboratory information systems. The lab department performs nearly 1.7 million tests per year, utilizing the latest in technologically advanced instrumentation.
Candidate must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulationsExperience:
Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required. Previous Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
Must have 6 years experience or otherwise meet NYSDOH requirements for a supervisor.
Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited or provisional permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Limited or Provisional Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination, which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited or provisional permit. Note: limited licensure will expire effective August 31, 2018. These will be referred to as Provisional Permits after that time.
