SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo is a leader in rural health care in south central Wisconsin. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs general tests in all laboratory areas — Blood banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology and Microbiology utilizing chemicals and instrumentation to analyze body fluids such as blood and urine. The Medical Laboratory Technician also performs blood collection from patients of all ages using age-appropriate techniques.
Can perform activities as listed on the House Wide Competency Master List and the Medical Laboratory Technician Competency Statement List.
Can perform activities (as listed on Laboratory Customer Service Assistant and Laboratory Assistant competency lists) to meet department’s needs.
Equipment To Be Used:
Use of instruments such as Vitros 950 Chemistry analyzer, Coulter MaxM Hematology Analyzer, Vitek Microbiology Analyzer, Clinitek 300 Urinalysis Analyzer, ACL 7000 Coagulation Analyzer, Abbott AxSYM Analyzer, Radiometer NPT7 Blood Gas Analyzer, and Diastat Analyzer. Also will use needles, evacuated tubes and other safety devices used in phlebotomy. Use of office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax, paging system, computer and printers
Requires exposure to disagreeable odors, fumes or airborne particles and the sight of body fluids and clinical specimens. Requires exposure to latex, plastic and other materials used for specimen transport and personal protective equipment. Requires exposure to Formalin and other hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers and soaps. Requires the use of instruments and equipment with moving parts. Environment can be noisy due to telephones, printers, and patients and visitors in reception area.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program
ASCP certified within 6 months of hire
