Biochemical Geneticist – Director of Metabolic Disease Laboratory (1.0 EFT)
Applicants are invited for a full-time Clinical Biochemist/Biochemical Geneticist in the Division of Clinical Biochemistry, Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine at SickKids Hospital.
The Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine at SickKids Hospital is internationally recognized as a major diagnostic and academic centre of excellence in service, teaching, and clinically-oriented research in Paediatric Laboratory Medicine.
The candidate should hold a PhD degree and be certified (or eligible for certification) in biochemical genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG). The applicants will have a strong record of scholarship, experience or special training in biochemical genetics, genetic-metabolic disease, mass spectrometry and other state-of-the art methodologies. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience in metabolic and biochemical genetics. Reporting to the Clinical Biochemistry Division Head, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with demonstrated professional skills, able to work in team settings, and have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Clinical laboratory functions will include oversight of analytical and quality aspects of laboratory analysis, interpretation of results, consultation with physicians, and teaching (staff, students, residents and fellows (including CCMG and CACB)).
Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist with both clinical programs and the Research Institute. Successful applicants will also be expected to participate in postgraduate teaching in the Postdoctoral Training Program in Clinical Biochemistry and Biochemical Genetics at the University of Toronto and various continuing medical education activities.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the Medical and Scientific Staff of the SickKids Hospital and in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto at a rank appropriate to experience and qualifications. Salary and benefits are in accordance with our hospital’s standards for compensation. The applicant should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
