Under direct supervision, you will aid in sample collection for the Thoracic Biorepository and its collaborators. This involves aiding in coordination of timing of sample collections by communicating with the research coordination team, collecting samples, processing of samples, accurate logging and storage of samples, sample inventory and data quality control, and communication with supporting core facilities who further process samples. You will assist in fulfilling requests for samples, including tracking the status of requests, pulling them from the inventory and shipping them. You will also assist in general
laboratory operation, such as monitoring supplies levels and requesting them to be ordered as needed, and updating SOPs as needed to reflect current practices.
* Under moderate supervision, monitor the collections schedule and collect patient samples from the OR, surgical pathology, and patient clinics in a timely manner
* Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogens)
* Understand and follow protocols (includes handling human samples)
* Record accurate logs of incoming samples and of sample locations in the inventory
* Perform quality control checks of the sample inventory and sample data
* Assist with fulfilling requests for samples
* Prepare, operate and troubleshoot equipment in processing procedures
* Read and follow all equipment manuals
* Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and University guidelines
* Ensure Laboratory is prepared for collecting and processing samples
* Maintain inventories
* Maintain sterile conditions as required
* Prepare reagents
* Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
* Recognize problems and suggest solutions
* Assist in modifications as directed
* Maintain appropriate standard operating procedures
* Prepare preliminary research progress reports
* Summarize results appropriately
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 2 years experience
